Interview with Jean Philippe Delmas, CEO Domaine Clarence Dilllon S.A.S. (Château Haut-Brion / La Mission Haut-Brion )
Jean-Philippe Delmas, General Director of Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion, describes the 2025 vintage as an exceptionally early and qualitatively very strong Bordeaux vintage. Only 2003 was even earlier in his career. During an exclusive interview at En Primeur Week, Jean-Philippe Delmas, Managing Director of Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion, described 2025 as “one of the earliest vintages of my career.”
For Delmas, 2025 is above all a remarkable “spring vintage.” While yields were affected by the conditionsof 2024 and the spring of 2025, the warm, dry summer that followed reminded him of benchmark vintages such as 2005 and 2010. Throughout the season, the vineyards remained in impeccable condition – “like a French garden”: healthy, balanced, and free from stress.
Delmas is equally positive about the market outlook. If release prices remain close to 2024 levels, he believes Bordeaux 2025 could become one of the most attractive En Primeur campaigns in years, offering buyers the opportunity to secure an outstanding vintage at prices well below those of benchmark years such as 2022, 2016, or 2010. As Delmas puts it: “You can buy a wonderful vintage for 30 percent less.”
The first releases appear to support this assessment. La Mission Haut-Brion 2023 was offered at around €275 per bottle. The newly released 2025 vintage is currently available for approximately €197–199 per bottle from merchants such as Crurated, Lobenberg, and Bacchus Vinothek, placing it significantly below the comparable 2023 release.
